What to Expect From an Intuitive Reading: Releasing Fear & Misconceptions
Oct 20, 2026
Have you ever wanted to book an intuitive reading but found yourself hesitating?
Maybe you’re curious, but there’s also that little bit of worry in the back of your mind.
What if they can read my mind? What if something comes through that I don’t want to hear? What if they tell me something bad is going to happen?
These are questions Rhonda and I hear, and they are completely understandable when you don’t know what to expect from an intuitive reading.
On a recent episode of Divine Dialogues: Intuitives Unveiled, Rhonda and I talked about some of these fears and misconceptions and shared how we personally approach intuitive readings.
What Happens During an Intuitive Reading?
The first thing I always like people to understand is that every intuitive works differently. We each have our own beliefs, ways of connecting and intuitive abilities.
For me, an intuitive reading is about connecting with the Divine and receiving guidance that is for your highest good. Depending on the type of reading, that connection may include your guardian angels, archangels or loved ones who have crossed over and are in the White Light.
A reading isn't about someone knowing everything about you. It is about receiving the information and guidance that may help you at this point in your journey.
Can an Intuitive Read Your Mind?
This is probably one of the biggest worries people have.
When you sit down for an intuitive reading, I am not sitting there listening to every thought going through your head. I don't need to know all of your secrets, and you don't have to worry that everything you've ever thought is suddenly going to be revealed!
The focus is on the guidance that comes forward for you.
Sometimes that guidance may confirm something you already know deep down. Other times, it may help you look at a situation differently or recognize something that has been creating a block in your life.
The purpose isn't to create more fear. It is to help bring clarity, understanding and guidance.
Will an Intuitive Reading Tell Me Something Bad?
Another common fear is, What if I hear something I don't want to know?
Rhonda and I both believe readings should be done with love, respect and clear boundaries.
I don't use readings to predict death or frightening events. I also don't believe a reading should leave someone feeling afraid of their future.
Guidance is there to help you move forward, not to make you fearful of what might happen next.
We all have choices. We all have our own paths. An intuitive reading can offer guidance, but you are still the person making the decisions in your life.
Can I Ask About Someone Else?
This is another important part of understanding intuitive readings.
Sometimes people come into a reading wanting very specific answers about another person: What should my partner do? Is my child making the right career choice? What is going to happen in someone else's relationship?
But their journey belongs to them.
Rhonda shared a great example during our conversation about a client who wanted specific answers about her son's career path. Instead of receiving a message telling her exactly what her son should do, the guidance was to allow him to follow his own heart.
I think that's such an important reminder.
We can love someone, support them and want the very best for them, but we can't walk their path for them.
What About Spiritual Mediumship?
Spiritual mediumship is different from an intuitive or angel card reading because the intention is to connect with loved ones who have crossed over.
One misconception is that we can simply call on a particular person and they will automatically come through.
That isn't always how it works.
I always explain that we can't force a connection. The loved one you are hoping to hear from may come forward, or someone else may connect instead.
For me, spiritual mediumship is about allowing the connection to unfold rather than trying to control exactly what happens.
Your Reading Should Help You Trust Yourself
One of the biggest things I hope people take away from a reading is greater trust in themselves.
An intuitive reading isn't meant to make you dependent on someone else for every decision you make.
The Divine may give you guidance, validation or a different perspective, but you still have your own intuition and free will.
Sometimes we already know the answer, but worry, fear or overthinking has made it difficult to hear ourselves.
A reading may simply help you recognize what you already knew.
It's Okay to Ask Questions Before a Reading
If you've been thinking about having an intuitive reading, angel card reading or spiritual mediumship session but something is holding you back, ask questions.
Find out how the person works. Ask about their beliefs. Ask what you can expect during the session.
Most importantly, choose someone whose approach feels comfortable to you.
There shouldn't be pressure to believe exactly what someone else believes. Your connection with the Divine is personal, and your belief system is your own.
Sometimes taking away the fear simply starts with understanding what a reading actually is.
And you may discover that instead of being something to fear, an intuitive reading can be an opportunity to receive guidance, validation and comfort while learning to trust your own connection with the Divine.
In Much Love,
Tracey Banga
